Southaven changing trash and recycling pickup, increasing monthly fees: What to know

Multiple changes are coming to the way Southaven residents dispose of their trash and recycling.

Starting May 1, the city will begin using a new waste management company, as the locally owned WastePro, replaces Waste Connections. While regular waste carts will not be replaced, WastePro will provide new recycling carts if residents opt-in for recycling services.

There are fee changes coming as well: For residents with one cart, the monthly fee has been raised to $20, and $11.35 for each additional cart, if necessary. Recycling carts are extra as well: it's $12.61 if you choose to opt in.

Garbage collection day for some residents and neighborhoods may change as WastePro takes charge.

See the city map in Southaven's Facebook post below to find out what day your area will receive a pickup.

Southaven residents who want to recycle can call (662)-796-2489 to order a cart. WastePro will begin delivering them by May 6, and the first pickup will be May 13. Any old recycling bins will be replaced during that time.

The rules for items that don't fit in the cart remain the same — place all non-electronic items at least 5 feet away from the bin or any obstruction and a separate truck will pick up the items. Electronic devices, large and small, can be taken to the County Rubbish Pit at 5255 W. Sandidge Road.
