The T-Birds got the consolation-semifinal win over the Hornets thanks to big time performances from seniors Connor Hopkins and Luke Brewer.

Entering the second quarter, Tumwater held a slim 12-11 lead over Enumclaw. As the quarter wore on, the Hornets had some breakdowns in their defense and the T-Birds took advantage of them.

Despite facing a 29-18 deficit at halftime, Enumclaw seniors Carter DeRosier and Noah Seabrands kept plugging away for their team. If the Hornets were going to make a comeback in the game, the offense would surely come from them.

Unfortunately as evenly as the two teams played down the stretch, Tumwater was able to pull away in the end. The T-Birds win ends Enumclaw’s season.

“It was [DeRosier] and [Seabrands] plugging away. We had to find a couple guys to get to the basket, we wanted them to play with as much confidence as possible,” said Enumclaw coach Terry Johnson. “We struggled for a stretch and breakdowns led to them scoring… Our guys gave everything they had for each other all year. They had some incredible experiences; league champs, top eight in state. They’re still a family and have been together all year.”

The Hornets’ final record will be 22-5.

As for the T-Birds, they will move on and tackle North Kitsap for the fourth/sixth place game in the 2A state tournament. That game will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Semifinals

NO. 3 BURLINGTON-EDISON 47, NO. 7 WHITE RIVER 38

BOX SCORE

WR: 1-15-2-20–38

BE: 7-16-14-10—47

White River mustered just three total points in the first and third quarters — scoring droughts that proved fatal to hopes of hoisting a championship trophy this weekend.

The Hornets trailed by as many as 23, but a valiant comeback effort in the final minutes cut the final deficit to nine in a 47-38 loss. Burlington-Edison’s win in Friday night’s semifinal puts the Tigers in the 2A championship Saturday.

White River will play for third place.

The Hornets began the game without a field goal for more than nine minutes. Senior guard Morgan Greene finally got White River its first bucket — a three-pointer — with 6:26 remaining in the opening half.

That’s when the Hornets found their footing. White River kept pace with Burlington-Edison for the rest of the quarter and entered intermission down seven.

But the Tigers never let off the gas. All five starters scored five-plus points and Burlington-Edison expanded their lead to 19 before the fourth quarter began.

White River held the Tigers without a field goal in the game’s final six minutes, though Burlington-Edison’s prior 23-point lead proved a sufficient cushion.

Greene led all scorers with 11 points and paced the Hornets with seven rebounds. Junior guard Josie Jacobs and sophomore guard Dakota Sprouse added eight points apiece.

Burlington-Edison’s Analise Slotemaker tallied 10 points and a game-high eight boards. Tigers sophomores Lily Atkins and Chesah Holmes posted nine points each.

Burlington-Edison meets undefeated and top-ranked Ellensburg in Saturday’s championship at the Yakima Valley SunDome. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Ellensburg has rolled through the state bracket and won three contests by a combined 85 points.

White River faces No. 4 Prosser for third-place honors at 1 p.m. The Hornets are guaranteed a fifth-place trophy.

SCORING: (BE) Analise Slotemaker 10, Lily Atkins 9, Chesah Holmes 9, Adria Ray 7, Malia Anderson 5, Claire Bishop 5, Mia Whitlock 2; (WR) Morgan Greene 11, Josie Jacobs 8, Dakota Sprouse 8, Vivian Kingston 5, Sophie Ross-Soler 5, Lexie Banks 1

BOX SCORE

S: 10-13-7-8—38

T: 3-5-8-8—24

Sequim’s defense held Tumwater to eight first-half points and denied a comeback to win Friday’s 2A consolation game in Yakima.

The Wolves will play for fourth-place honors in the Yakima Valley SunDome on Saturday.

Tumwater struggled from the field (9-58, 15.5 FG%), unable to recover from a near-nine-minute scoring drought in the first half.

The T-Birds took 11 more shots than Sequim but made six less. Sophomore guard Morgan Simmons sunk a free throw with 5:14 remaining in the first quarter to narrow a then-narrow deficit, 4-3. That was Tumwater’s last converted basket until senior guard Hadley Woods drained a three-pointer with 4:51 left in the half.

Meanwhile, Sequim piled a 10-0 run and led by 15 at halftime. Wolves forward Jolene Vaara posted a game-high 17 points (8-15 FG) and senior center Jelissa Julmist snagged a game-best 10 boards.

Tumwater’s Kylie Waltermeyer, a senior guard, notched team-highs with 12 points and eight rebounds. Senior forward Cierra Larson added eight points and eight rebounds.

Sequim won the rebounding battle, 36-32, and meets No. 10 Othello in Saturday’s fourth-place game at 9:30 a.m. The Wolves are guaranteed at least a sixth-place trophy.

Tumwater won in the Dome’s ‘Round of 12’ over No. 12 Enumclaw on Wednesday. The T-Birds fell to No. 2 Burlington-Edison in Thursday’s 2A quarterfinal and Friday’s loss ends their season.

NO. 8 OVERLAKE 50, NO. 3 ANNIE WRIGHT 49

BOX SCORE

O: 13-15-12-10--50

AW: 11-14-8-16--49

The Gators season comes to an end as they fell by just one point to the Owls in the 1A consolation semifinals.

Playing a fairly even first half, Overlake took a 28-25 lead into halftime. From there, the Owls scoring slowed down a little and Annie Wright picked up their pace a bit.

Coming down to the end of the fourth quarter and holding a 50-49 lead, Overlake fouled Gator sophomore Reggie Lester and sent him to the free throw line. This was an ideal situation for Annie Wright, especially if Lester could sink both free throws.

Unfortunately, Lester missed both and the Gators could not get another chance to score.

“We’ve got to make our free throws and focus up. These last two games we weren’t focused. It was little mistakes, and the little things got us,” said coach Dom Williams. “It’s March, anything can happen. This was a wake-up call for us. It’s a learning experience for this group. To be a champion, you can’t take days off. To be where we are at though, you have to be a family. We did everything we could, just got to step up in the big moments.”

Overlake’s offense came through four senior players. Jake Shuey put up a game-high 17 points, Nikita Davis contributed 15, Jack Wiley netted 13, and Alec Odell chipped in the last five for the Owls.

On the side of the Gators, Lester, freshman Amare Breedlove, and junior TJ Marshall co-led their team in scoring with 11 points each.

A brilliant season for Annie Wright comes to an end, however. Their final record for the season stands at 23-3.

SCORING: (O) Jake Shuey 17, Alec Odell 5, Nikita Davis 15, Jack Wiley 13; (AW) Reggie Lester 11, Jeremiah Harshman 2, Amare Breedlove 11, TJ Marshall 11, Martin Kaupanger 7, Gabe Walsh 6, Cale Carter 1

NO. 6 LA CONNER 67, NO. 7 RAINIER 47

BOX SCORE

LC: 16-19-18-14--67

R: 7-4-18-18--47

The Mountaineers dug themselves into too far of a hole in the first half, making their second half wake-up fall flat against the Braves.

Entering halftime, Rainier was down 35-11. Not much offense was generated, and three La Conner players were already well on their way to double digit scoring.

However in the second half, the Mountaineers found their footing and kept pace with the Braves. Each scored 18 in the third quarter, and Rainier outscored their opponent 18-14 in the fourth.

Unfortunately, a defensive lapse throughout the first half made it extremely tough for a Mountaineer comeback. Rainier’s leading scorer was sophomore Angelica Askey, with a game-high 22 points.

La Conner had three seniors score in double digits: Makayla Herrera and Ellie Marble each scored 18, and Josie Harper scored 12.

Rainier’s loss ends their season. They finished in the top eight at the 2B state tournament and their final record is 21-7.

SCORING: (LC) Lily Dougliss 2, Josie Harper 12, Maeve McCormick 1, Lydia Grossglass 1, Makayla Herrera 18, Izzy Villard 5, Shaniquah Casey 1, Ellie Marble 18, Kennedy Miller 9; (R) Brooklyn Swenson 7, Angelica Askey 22, Lilly Johnson 2, Emma Mathson 3, Anika Plowman 4, Janess Blackburn 8, Bryn Beckman 1
