South Lamar shut down due to emergency utility repairs, reopening by 10 a.m.

Emergency repairs to a damaged utility pole on South Lamar Boulevard shut down all lanes of the busy South Austin thoroughfare Wednesday morning.

All lanes of South Lamar Boulevard above Barton Springs Road, near the intersection of Bluff Street, were closed off after a car struck a utility pole early Wednesday morning. Live wires were initially strewn on the road but have since been shut off, affecting power to about 20 customers, Austin Energy spokesperson Matthew Mitchell said.

Officials estimate repairs will be completed close to 10 a.m. Wednesday. Repairs began shortly before 3:20 a.m.
