South Dakota State basketball lost a program cornerstone to the transfer portal on Monday.

Sophomore forward William Kyle III announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on Twitter. Kyle III had a breakout season, averaging 13 points per game on 62% shooting from the field and 6.6 rebounds per game.

The rising junior will have no shortage of suitors after an incredible 2023-24 season.

The Bellevue, Neb. native won Summit League Defensive Player of the Year and the Summit League Tournament MVP. Kyle III played a significant role in the Jackrabbits winning the Summit League Tournament and making their seventh NCAA Tournament berth.

SDSU defeated Denver in the Summit League championship game, 76-68, to receive an auto-bid in the NCAA Tournament. Kyle III recorded a double-double in that game, scoring 15 points and he hauled in 11 rebounds.

South Dakota State faced Iowa State in the first round and lost 82-65. Kyle III scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
