More Beamer Ball

The Gamecocks have developed a reputation for special teams prowess, and once again that unit executed a big play. USC faked a field goal on fourth down, and punter Kai Kroger passed to defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway to convert the first down. Rattler would follow up with a touchdown pass to Antwane Wells, his second of the game.

Dores find end zone

After the Gamecocks went three and out on the first drive of the second half, Vanderbilt engineered an 11-play, 81-yard drive that ended in a 1-yard touchdown run by running back Patrick Smith.

Vann scores for USC

Spencer Rattler scrambled to his right and threw a 50-50 ball for receiver Josh Vann, who came down with the touchdown despite tight coverage. The Gamecocks take a 17-point lead into halftime.

Beal-Smith scores on long run

Running back Christian Beal-Smith found an opening and ran 52 yards for a touchdown, giving the Gamecocks a 10-point lead.

Vanderbilt inches closer

The Commodores ran for 66 yards with the USC defense missing multiple tackles, and Vandy punched in a touchdown with a nine-yard pass to Quincy Skinner Jr. to make it 17-14.

Turnover leads to points for USC

DQ Smith forced a fumble from Vandy quarterback A.J. Swann, which was recovered by Alex Huntley. The Gamecocks weren’t able to capitalize on the field position with a touchdown, but Mitch Jeter made a 31-yard kick to extend USC’s lead to 17-7.

Explosive play for Gamecocks

The Gamecocks pulled a trick play out of their back pocket on their second drive. Receiver Dakereon Joyner lined up at the wildcat, scrambled away from pressure and threw a short pass to Antwane Wells, who raced 68 yards for a touchdown.

Commodores tie it up

On Vanderbilt’s second drive, quarterback A.J. Swann found Quincy Skinner Jr. for a 66-yard touchdown to tie the score at 7-7.

Gamecocks strike first

USC got off to a strong start on the road. Defensive back Darius Rush intercepted a pass on Vanderbilt’s first drive, setting up a scoring drive for Spencer Rattler. Rattler found receiver Xavier Legette in the end zone for a 29-yard touchdown.
