South Carolina man dies after being hit by train, coroner says

An investigation is underway after a South Carolina man was hit by a train and died, the Pickens County Coroner’s Office said Sunday.

James Flowe, a 31-year-old Easley resident, died at about 8 p.m. Saturday, the coroner’s office said in a news release.

Flowe, a pedestrian, was struck by a Norfolk Southern train on railroad tracks near the intersection of S.C. 8 and Fleetwood Drive, according to the release.

That’s in the Upstate region of South Carolina, about a mile from Prisma Health Baptist Easley Hospital. It’s also about two miles from Flowe’s residence, the coroner’s office said.

Flowe was taken to the hospital where he died from blunt force trauma, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about the collision was not available, but it is being investigated by the coroner’s office, along with the Easley Police Department and Norfolk Southern.
