South Carolina baseball has a new radio crew. Who’s in the booth for 2024 season?
South Carolina baseball is moving forward with a new-look broadcast team following the passing of longtime color commentator and beloved radio personality Tommy Moody.
Moody, who died in October at the age of 72, became a baseball legend in the Midlands. A former Gamecock, he was a baseball encyclopedia, using his made-for-trivia brain and personality as the USC baseball color commentator for over two decades.
Replacing Moody will be former Charleston Southern head coach and South Carolina baseball assistant Stuart Lake, a USC spokesman told The State on Tuesday.
The 52-year-old Lake was on coach Mark Kingston’s first staff at USC in 2017 and stayed in the role for four seasons before stepping away. Lake has been an assistant director of development at South Carolina for the past 18 months.
Alongside Lake in the radio booth’s lead role will be mainly Derek Scott, who has held the position since 2016. Because Scott is also the play-by-play broadcaster for the South Carolina men’s basketball team, there will be someone else scheduled to call baseball games while Scott has hoop duties.
Splitting the early-season games with Scott is Cade Crenshaw, a 2023 graduate of South Carolina who filled in for select USC baseball games last season and worked as a broadcaster for a number of Gamecock baseball, softball and men’s soccer games on ESPN+.
All South Carolina baseball games will be aired on 107.5 FM in Columbia and a number of other radio stations throughout the Palmetto State and north Georgia. A full list of radio affiliates can be found here.
The 25th-ranked South Carolina baseball team will begin its 2024 season on Friday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. at Founders Park.
