Sophomore Olivia Tilley breaks Airport career record for stolen bases

GROSSE ILE – Olivia Tilley was on base a lot Wednesday with three hits.

And when Tilley gets on base, she usually takes more.

Tilley broke the Airport career record for career stolen bases during a 13-1 win over Grosse Ile.

Only a sophomore, Tilley already has swiped 53 bases breaking the record set by Tiffany Warren from 1995-98.

“It’s very impressive,” Airport coach Jess Irwin said of Tilley breaking a career record with less than two seasons under her belt. “The kid puts in so much work. You expect good things when kids put in that kind of work.”

Raschel Weaver also went 3-for-4 for the Jets.

“As a team we had a total of 16 hits,” Airport coach Jess Irwin said. "Alayna McDaniel threw a great game, giving up only one hit and striking out five.”

Airport improved to 19-4.

PREP SOFTBALL

Irwin, Brown go deep

ONSTED – Kennedy Irwin and Keirnan Brown both hit their first home run of the season for Dundee in a 23-3, 10-0 sweep of Onsted Wednesday.

Irwin hit for the cycle in the first game and Brown drove in five runs with a double, two triples and a home run.

Shay VanZandt added three hits, including her fifth homer of the season to support three-hit pitching by Kaylee Imo.

Imo returned the favor by going 3-for-3 to help Lauren Doane win on a two-hit shutout in the second game. Brown made a great hit in rightfield.

Milan moves to 17-2

FLAT ROCK – A two-run double by Reese Knox was the big hit of an eight-run sixth inning that carried Milan past Flat Rock 9-4 Wednesday.

It was the second hit of the inning for Knox.

Also contributing hits during that inning were Tierra Ronayne, MacKenzie Chrysler, Georgia Linzell, Mariah Stines and Kamryn Fell.

Stines was the winning pitcher for the Big Reds, who improved to 17-2 overall and 9-1 in the Huron League.

Ryen Clair, Addi Kopp, Sarah Giroux and Emma Neace logged two hits each for Flat Rock.

Lewandowski spoils no-hitter

WOODHAVEN – Kiley Lewandowski broke up a no-hit bid by Woodhaven’s Grace Usher for Gibraltar Carlson’s only hit in an 18-0 loss Wednesday.

The Marauders fell to 12-5.

Homrich plates winner

ERIE – Winning pitcher Addie Homrich singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Erie Mason a 12-11 win over Sand Creek Wednesday.

Sand Creek scored six times in the bottom of the seventh to take the second game 12-11.

Homrich and Kensey Kreger each logged six hits in the doubleheader. Zoie Stubleski finished with five.

PREP BASEBALL

Big inning lifts Rams

MILAN – Flat Rock came from behind with a seven-run fifth inning to knock off Milan 11-6 Wednesday.

Ty Bergeron, Mike Giroux and Jaycob Pieprzyk all logged two hits and two RBI for Flat Rock, Logan Coplen also had a pair of hits and Evan Szalay scored three times.

“We did a real nice at the plate today,” Flat Rock coach Josh Godfrey. “We had some great at bats with two outs.”

Jaxon Morawski had two hits and four RBI for Milan and Billy Gaskell went 2-for-3.

Airport dominates

CARLETON – Jack Mills went 3-for-4 and Nolan Zajac tripled twice as Airport blasted Grosse Ile 14-2 Wednesday.

Carter Smith was the winning pitcher for the 14-5 Jets.

Bedford bounces back

ANN ARBOR – Two days after getting swept at home by Ann Arbor Skyline, Bedford got revenge with a 4-3 win Wednesday.

Isaac Garrow, Nolan Laskey, Brody Leonhard and Andrew Kuebbeler recorded two hits each for the 10-11 Mules.

Dundee wins nightcap

ONSTED – Cam Fairchild’s sacrifice fly plated the winning run as Dundee nipped Onsted 8-7 in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

A hit by Ryan Zanger put the winning run in scoring position and Ethan Layton was strong on the mound in his first start of the season for the 11-8 Vikings.

Cooper Buhl had a two-run single in the first game of the doubleheader, but it was one of just four Viking hits in a 4-2 loss.

Mason falls twice

SAND CREEK – Collin Brooks, Xavier Wise and Brody Koehl had two hits each in the second game, but Erie Mason was swept by Sand Creek 16-1 and 10-9 Wednesday.

Airport tops SMCC

MONROE – Airport won its second straight game in the Huron League Tournament, clipping St. Mary Catholic Central 5-1 Wednesday.

Nora Kinsey scored on a penalty kick for 3-13-1 SMCC and Quinn Harrington played well.

Carlson finishes 11-1-1

ALLEN PARK – Gibraltar Carlson completed an 11-1-1 dual-meet season and an undefeated run through the Downriver League by beating Allen Park 6-2 Wednesday.

Erin Riley, Riley Sulewski, Julie Mitchell, Brooklyn Roldan-Delaney Boller, Lila Angelos-Madison Jacobs and Nicole Sendry-Sarah Pente won for the Marauders.

Singles spark SMCC

MONROE – Molly Blanchett, Analiese Flint, Elizabeth Zwack and Avery Yeager dropped a total of just eight games to sweep the singles matches in a 5-3 St. Mary Catholic Central victory over Milan Wednesday.

The Kestrels also got a win from Isabelle Fitzpatrick-Addison Boylan at No. 4 doubles.

Milan took the first three doubles flights with Jessica Lubke-Ella Warren, Ava Demond-Gwen Jones and Maya Grimley-Rylee Kennedy.

PREP GOLF

Dundee, Ida finish 1-2

HUDSON – Dundee shot 162 and Ida 170 to take the top two spots in Wednesday’s Lenawee County Athletic Association jamboree.

Dundee’s Carter Bahn was the medalist with 36 and Andy Barnes was third with 40. Rounding out the top scores for the Vikings were Levi Evans with 42 and Gus Dobbertstein 44.

Ida’s leaders were Davin Slater (42), Zackary Bailey (42), Alexander Faryniarz (42) and Michael Wolfe (44).

Lerette, Kosiba lead Huron

NEW BOSTON – Johnathan Lerette (38) and Nick Kosiba (39) of New Boston Huron shot the two best rounds of the day in a 159-178 win over Flat Rock at Willow Metropark Wednesday.

Cameron Grant, Anthony Robbins and Aidan O’Kelley all added a 41 for Huron and Ben Scully of Flat Rock tied them.

Airport wins by a stroke

RIVERVIEW – Airport earned a key Huron League win Wednesday, nipping Riverview 173-174 at Riverview Highlands.

Brayden Siders shot 41 to lead the Jets while Jake Trythall added 43, Landon McGregor 44 and Aidan Gannon 45.

SMCC falls short

MONROE – Drew Vuich and Thomas Rivard both shot 43, but St. Mary Catholic Central fell 173-176 to Grosse Ile Wednesday.

Carlson tops three teams

RIVERVIEW – Gibraltar Carlson shot 151 Wednesday to finish 20 strokes ahead of three other Downriver League teams at Riverview Highlands.

Woodhaven finished with 171, Southgate Anderson 188 and Wyandotte Roosevelt 189.

Carlson had five of the first seven spots including Landon Kongeal (36) and Trent Ison (37) at 1-2. Hagan Smith added a 38, Jake Marcott 40, Cam Kalbfleisch 41.

Soss is runner-up

EAST JACKSON – Bedford’s Frank Soss shot 74 for the second-best round of the day in the East Jackson Invitational.

Jayce Yarad added an 84 for the Mules, who placed sixth out of 21 teams.

Masserant breaks record

OTTAWA LAKE – Stepan Masserant cleared 13-6 in the pole vault to break his own school record of 12-9 set last year as Whiteford’s boys (7-1) whipped Morenci 127-9 and Britton Deerfield 119-17 Wednesday.

Kolby Masserant (100, long jump), Ryin Ruddy (hurdles) and Jakub Diesing (800, 1,600) were double winners for the Bobcats. Other top performances came from Antonio Nachtrab, Jess Saylor Keegan Masters, Zach Kahn, Brody Hillard, Gaspare Pirrone, Chase Lee and Liam Waterford.

Whiteford’s girls (6-2) beat Morenci 82-46 and BD 114-15 as Braelynn Chiotti (1,600, 3,200), Rylie CeSilvis (200, long jump) and Kenzi Gray (throws) were double winners. Other standouts were Paityn Biggs, Layla Consear, Maysen Podgorski, Margo Thomas, Alaina McClain, Reagan Wing and Nina Bauman.

Ida girls win twice

IDA – Ida logged a pair of Lenawee County Athletic Association wins on its home track Wednesday, turning back Blissfield 77.5-58.5 and Clinton 97-37.

Julia Huges won both hurdles along with the 200 meters and anchored a winning relay to lead the Blue Streaks.

Taegan Williamson (400), Madison Steinman (shot-put), Addyson Etue (pole vault) and Madelynn Roderick (long jump) also won events and Ida took the 800 (Maddy Downing, Taylee Williamson, Madelynn Roderick, Mackenzie Dollison) and 1,600 (Taylee Williamson, Gabrianna Garner, Dollison, Hughes) relays.

The Ida boys beat Blissfield 92-45, but fell 78-59 to Clinton. Grantham Nelson (400), Tristen Sedlar (800), Carmeron Tross (low hurdles), Jaxon Bolster (pole vault) and the 800 relay of Tross, Brandon Commet, Zach Hemry and Brenner Nelson won for the Blue Streaks.

FRESHMAN BASEBALL

Bryant leads Bedford

TEMPERANCE – Jason Bryant went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI for Bedford in a 17-2 win over New Boston Huron Wednesday.
