Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh Channels Queen Elizabeth

One of Queen Elizabeth's favorite events on the royal calendar was the annual Royal Windsor Horse Show. The show has been held annually since 1943, and the Queen never missed a year—including in 2022, when she was dealing with ongoing mobility issues. To the event, held on the grounds of the Windsor Castle estate, the late Queen could often be spotted sporting her signature headscarf.

This year, her daughter-in-law, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, has been in attendance for the first two days of the 2024 Royal Windsor Horse Show. Today, Sophie's style felt like a modern update on the late Queen's horse show fashion. She wore a khaki Me+EM blazer over a white blouse, a black skirt, and brown boots:

Yet, the scarf tied around her ponytail—which appears to be a silk Hermès twilly—felt like a clear nod to her late mother-in-law, who would often wear scarves to the horse show.

Sophie and Prince Edward's daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, has competed in the horse show in years past, in carriage driving—using her grandfather Prince Philip's carriage. In 2018, Sophie joined her daughter in the carriage, but shared in an interview about her daughter, "I trail in her wake, frankly. She is naturally so good at it, she really is. It's something that she has taken to very well." In 2022, Queen Elizabeth joined Sophie and Edward to watch Louise compete.

Queen Elizabeth's love for horses was a constant in her life. Queen Camilla once described horse racing as Elizabeth's "passion in life," saying, "She can tell you every horse she’s bred and owned, from the very beginning, she doesn’t forget anything. I can hardly remember what I bred a year ago, so she’s encyclopedic about her knowledge." After she passed away, King Charles inherited her racehorses.
