Sonic Drive-In to land with a boom in the Mohawk Valley. Find out where

Boom! Sonic is coming to town.

Soon, Mohawk Valley residents will be able to nosh on juicy burgers and crispy chicken tenders and cool off with thick, creamy milkshakes from the comfort of their cars, as the popular fast-food chain Sonic Drive-In is set to open a location in New Hartford, the first in the area.

The restaurant is known for its retro drive-in style where customers can order from their cars and have their food brought out to them by “carhops.”

The proposed location will occupy the current Dippin’ Donuts location on Seneca Turnpike, New Hartford Town Supervisor Paul Miscione confirmed.

“I think it's nice to see new businesses wanting to come to New Hartford,” Miscione said. “It definitely boosts our economy and gives people options for locations to dine, so it’s a plus. It brings people from other areas, too, to spend their money in New Hartford.”

The Dippin’ Donuts location is currently still open, and there is not presently a concrete time frame for when the Sonic restaurant will open.

Currently, the closest Sonic is on Erie Boulevard in Dewitt.

Officials from Sonic Drive-In did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
