Something’s new at Mama’s Pizza near TCU in Fort Worth. Check out the fresh look

Mama’s Pizza near TCU reopens

Hey, Bud! Did you see what they did to the Mama’s Pizza on Berry Street?

—Comment during lunch at Old Neighborhood Grill

Yes. The Mama’s Pizza at 1813 W. Berry St. has a new paint job and looks great after 50 years. Fort Worth’s most legendary pizza restaurant — and sometimes also its most notorious for college football scandals — is bright and clean now and drawing new crowds for the weekday-and-Saturday lunch buffet or for the new thin-crust version. (Don’t worry about all the TCU memorabilia. It’s back after being reframed and arranged.)

Why write about Joe T.’s? Because people go

Hey, Bud! Why do you always mention Joe T’s?

—Readers at facebook.com/diningguy after posts about the 87th anniversary

(1) Lots of readers go. (2) Best chiles rellenos in town. (3) Excellent tortilla soup. (4) Classic tamales with old-fashioned chili con carne. (5) The best “Joe’s” barroom-style fajita nachos. Lots of great food and a giant menu at lunch and brunch, and of course, the margaritas.

People everywhere gripe about iconic restaurants. That gets attention.

Pura Vida restaurant open in Sansom Park

Hey, Bud! There’s a new Pura Vida Mexican Bar & Grill. Is that related to the one in Weatherford?

—Lake Worth reader

Pura Vida, 5103 Azle Ave. in Sansom Park, is from family members of the Pura Vida in Weatherford, Villa del Sol north of Azle and Más Salsa in Springtown, all highly rated by social media reviewers.

Sansom Park has great Tex-Mex. Check out Mezcales and El Paseo too.
