A nationwide chicken chain is opening a new Jacksonville restaurant Monday that coincides with the company's marketing of a new Fried Chicken Philly sandwich on the menu.

Zaxby's at 3175 New Berlin Road off Yellow Bluff Road is in the Publix-anchored Northpoint Village Shopping Center on the Northside.

In addition to Publix, the restaurant neighbors Heartland Dental, Community First Credit Union, Gate convenience store and McDonald's in the shopping center, according to a real estate brochure from International Management Company LLC for the property.

Founded in 1990, Zaxby's is known for its chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads. Its iconic Fried Pickles were selected to USA Today’s 2023 10 Best Fast Food Sides List. They were ranked No. 7 and noted for a "satisfying combination of crunch and tang."

The New Berlin Road restaurant is among approximately 20 locations mostly in Jacksonville but also some in Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties, Google listings show.

To celebrate its grand opening, the first 100 people in line at the new location will receive free Zaxby's for a year, the restaurant said in a news release announcing the opening. Terms and conditions apply, but the franchise didn't specify.

The new restaurant is owned and operated by New Berlin JASZ Inc. based in Jacksonville. The company owned and led by Ron Gosselin has 13 Zaxby's locations in the Jacksonville area.

“Our restaurant will focus on delivering an unparalleled dining experience while also partnering with local schools and churches to give back to the community,” Gosselin said.

At 2,904 square feet, the New Berlin location seats up to 56 people in the dining room. The restaurant features a double drive-thru layout, complete with Zaxby's new cutting-edge digital menu boards so the payment and pickup process will be quicker for customers.

New on the menu

The restaurant opens as Zaxby's introduces its limited-edition Chicken Philly that features Zaxby's signature fried or grilled chicken with garlic aioli and a combination of melted American cheese, grilled peppers and onions on a toasted hoagie roll.

The sandwich starts at $7.29 and is available at participating Zaxby's restaurants while supplies last.
