Somerset's Emma Bordetsky makes run at state bowling, advances to bracket play

The area's top girls represented at Wednesday's FHSAA Bowling Championships at Boardwalk Bowl Entertainment Center in Orlando.

Somerset College Prep's Emma Bordetsky rolled an 811 four-game series, including a high game of 221 to place 11th in individual qualifying and advance to the championship bracket.

In bracket play, Bordetsky suffered a loss to Emily Street of Space Coast and was eliminated from the tournament with a loss to Brooke Pabst of Cape Coral.

Jensen Beach finished in 24th in team qualifying in their first ever trip to the state tournament.

For the Falcons, Hannah Whetzel bowled a 682 series to finish 59th in individual qualifying. Grace Pettit rolled a 572 series and Lizzie Fitzwater bowled a 561 series for Jensen Beach.

Martin County's Emelia Koehler rolled a 765 series to finish in a tie for 30th individually for the Tigers.

Sebastian River, South Fork swimmers lock up state berths

Sebastian River's girls brought home a second place finish and the Shark boys took third at Wednesday's Region 4-3A swimming and diving championships at Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart.

It was a big day for Sebastian River's Louis St. Petery, who won the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.71 and also won the 100 backstroke, clocking in a time of 51.57.

St. Petery, Lee St. Petery, Jace Domster and Stefano Mazzi teamed up to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.41 and the quartet was second in the 400 freestyle relay for the Sharks.

Mazzi earned a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke to qualify for the state meet.

South Fork's Finnegan May broke his own school record in the 50 freestyle, winning the event with a time of 22.09 for the Bulldogs.

Sebastian River's Mary Twomey took second in the 100 breaststroke and Twomey teamed up with Zoe Keppel, Paige Maclean and Alexis Solomon to earn runner-up finishes in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay to also earn a trip to the state meet.

In the diving events, Vivian Fougeron took second for South Fork's girls to advance to the state meet and for the boys, Sebastian River's Matthew Pettit was the lone participant and also will be off to state.

At-large berths will be given out to swimmers in advance for the FHSAA 3A Championships in Ocala on Nov. 11.
