Softball Tournament Draw: Sheridan nabs top seed in SE

Area softball teams learned their tournament fates on Sunday, as draws were held around the state.

Southeast District

Sheridan was the overall top seed in Division II, as the district sends two teams to the regional tournament this season.

The Generals will host either 16th seed River Valley or 17th seed Washington Court House at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, and a win sends them to the district semifinal against either eighth seed Athens or ninth seed Fairfield Union at 4 p.m. May 14, at Ohio University.

New Lexington was given the 11th seed and heads to sixth seed Circleville at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. The winner heads to the district semifinal against likely third seed Hillsboro around 6 p.m. May 15 at Ohio University.

The district finals will be held on May 17.

Crooksville was voted the 13th seed in Division III and travels to 12th seed Huntington at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9, and the winner advances to the district semifinals to likely face top seed Wheelersburg at 4 p.m. Monday, May 13 at Ohio University.

East District

John Glenn was voted the second seed in Division II behind top seed Dover, while Morgan was awarded the third seed, West Holmes fourth and Steubenville fifth.

West Muskingum earned the ninth seed, Cambridge 11th, Philo 13th, River View 17th, Maysville 18th and Zanesville 20th to round out area teams.

There are several pigtail games at 5 p.m. Monday, May 6 where the better seed hosts. West Muskingum welcomes Maysville, Philo heads to Martins Ferry and Cambridge hosts River View.

The winner between the Tornadoes and Panthers travels to West Holmes; Zanesville heads to Steubenville, Morgan entertains the winner of the Purple Riders and Electrics; the winner of the Bobcats and Lady Bears plays at John Glenn, as those games will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.

The sectional finals will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, May 10. Potential matchups could be West Muskingum and Steubenville; Morgan or Philo against eighth seed Indian Creek or 12th seed Harrison Central; and John Glenn or Cambridge against seventh seed New Philadelphia.

The district semifinals are at 5 p.m. May 13, and the district final is set for 5 p.m. May 15. All district tournaments will be at neutral sites.

In Division III, Meadowbrook drew the second seed behind top seed Richmond Edison, while Ridgewood was given the seventh seed, Buckeye Trail 13th and Coshocton 14th.

The Colts welcome 15th seed St. Clairsville; Trail heads to 10th seed Claymont; Ridgewood hosts ninth seed Buckeye Local; and the Redskins visit sixth seed Union Local, as all games will be at 5 p.m. Monday, May 6.

Sectional finals will be at the higher seed at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9. A Trail win sends the Warriors to Edison; a victory by the Generals sets up a likely matchup with third seed Barnesville; and Coshocton and Meadowbrook could meet up if both sides win.

The district semifinals are at 5 p.m. May 13, and the district final is set for 5 p.m. May 15. All district tournaments will be at neutral sites.

Rosecrans was voted the 13th seed in Division IV and opens at sixth seed Shadyside at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 7. The winner will face the winner of second seed Conotton Valley and 14th seed Malvern at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9.

The district semifinals are at 5 p.m. May 13, and the district final is set for 5 p.m. May 15. All district tournaments will be at neutral sites.

Central District

Tri-Valley was voted the 10th seed out of 47 teams in Division I and will host 46th seed Westland at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9.

A win by the Scotties sends them to the district semifinal where they could face ninth seed Mount Vernon, 32nd seed Columbus Hartley and 38th seed Westerville South at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 at the better seed.
