Who was a softball superstar last week? Vote now for Providence Journal Player of the Week

The final full week of regular season play is in the books and the big performances keep on coming.

So who was the best of the best? As always, the Providence Journal went through the week’s top performances, put together a list of names and narrowed it down to five players as our nominees for Player of the Week.

Who wins Providence Journal Player of the Week is up to you. Readers can vote for their selection in the poll at the bottom of the page. Do not email the Journal staff with your vote. While we appreciate the effort and have a laugh behind the scenes at the people who can’t understand simple directions and how the internet works, we are not casting that ballot.

What does the Providence Journal Player of the Week receive?

Clout. The award is meant to be an interactive way for the state’s softball community to get involved with coverage and the sport. If you want to win, we encourage players, parents, coaches and schools to create social media campaigns to get friends, family, classmates and whoever else to vote, vote and vote some more.

Voting runs through Thursday night and the winner will be announced Friday morning.

So go check out this week’s nominees, then cast your ballot below.

Haley Boudreau, Johnston

The sophomore was at her best when the Panthers needed it most. Boudreau threw three complete games this week, including a pair of shutouts against Westerly and Ponaganset – previously the two top teams in D-II. In her 21 innings of work, Boudreau gave up just 10 hits, walked five and struck out 38 without giving up an earned run.

Offense was the star of the show for the Patriots this week and D’Amato was front and center. The junior second baseman went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and one run in Pilgrim’s 9-0 win over East Providence. D’Amato followed it with another great day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, a double and one run in an 11-1 win over Moses Brown.

Adriana Jeannenot, Chariho

She might be a freshman, but Jeannenot’s not playing that way. The Chargers’ ace was on her game this week, starting with a 13-strikeout performance in a 2-1 win over Prout where she allowed just four hits and no earned runs. Against Smithfield Saturday, Jeannenot might have been better, giving up three hits and one earned run while striking out 15 and coming up with a bases-clearing double that broke the game open in a 9-1 win.

It was a bad week to be facing Marella, who ripped the cover off the ball all week long. Marella started with two solo home runs in an 8-7 loss to Bay View, then followed it by torturing Cumberland pitching. Marella ripped two bombs with four RBI in a 16-8 win over the Clippers and followed it with another home run in Cumberland’s 7-3 win. The home run streak ended against Coventry Sunday, but Marella still went 3-for-3 with two RBI in the 15-3 win.

Waycott came up with a swing every kid dreams about, hitting a two-out, game-tying grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning that helped the Bengals take down Cranston West, 8-7. Waycott went 2-for-4 in the game with five RBI and two runs. She followed it with another strong performance in a 3-2 loss to St. Raphael, going 2-for-2 with one RBI.
