Softball Player of the Week: Bound Brook’s Katelyn Cunha wins Week 7 honors

The Bound Brook High School softball team has re-emerged as a Skyland Conference Mountain Division power, going 16-5 and sweeping the division slate, its winningest season in nearly a decade. And while the Crusaders received key contributions from a host of players, the three-year starter was certainly front and center.

Cunha was certainly in the middle of things as Bound Brook went 3-0 last week, going 11-for-23 during the stretch with two doubles, a triple, three stolen bases, five runs and 10 RBIs. She finishes her junior campaign hitting .400 with four doubles, three triples, 206 runs and 17 RBIS, plus 15 stolen bases and 11 walks.

She’ll head into her senior season needing 11 hits to reach 100 for her career.

“Katelyn Cunha is one of the most natural athletic softball players (I’ve seen),” longtime Bound Brook coach Shannon DeLuca said. “She can play almost any position and be the best at it.  She is a contact hitter and our team relies on her to put the ball in play.”
