Softball: Coldwater rolls past Hastings, Bronson routs Reading

HASTINGS – The Coldwater Cardinals rolled to two huge wins Tuesday afternoon, earning their first wins of the new season with a sweep of Hastings by scores of 24-0 and 25-5.

Game one of the twinbill saw Coldwater pitcher Mya Porter hold Hastings hitless in the four-inning win, walking two while striking out nine as the Cardinals won 24-0.

Coldwater scored their 24 runs on 12 hits while taking advantage of five errors by the Saxons to go along with 11 walks drawn.

Maren DeBeau finished the game going 3 for 5 with two singles and a double with four RBIs and four runs scored while centerfielder Mya Moore finished 2 for 2 with two singles, five RBIs and two runs scored.

Also notching a multi-hit game was Porter with a single and a double with three RBIs; Rylie VanAken with a single and a double, one RBI and two runs scored; and Mackenzie Searing with two singles, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Game two saw the Cardinals record 23 hits while only allowing three on the way to the 25-5 win.

Mackenzie Searing took the win on the mound, throwing five innings while allowing five runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts.

Searing helped her own cause at the plate, finishing a perfect 5 for 5 with four singles and a triple with four RBIs and a run scored.

VanAken also had a big game, finishing a perfect 4 for 4 with three singles and a double with two RBIs and five runs scored.

Also recording a multi-hit game was DeBeau with two singles, two RBIs and three runs scored; Coley Burkhardt with a single and two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored; Porter with three singles, three RBIs, and three runs scored; TK Boyd with three singles, four RBIs and three runs scored; and Moore with a single and a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Coldwater is 2-7 overall on the season and will be back in action Wednesday when they face Buchanan.

Bronson rolls past Reading to remain unbeaten in Big 8

READING – The Bronson Vikings continue to roll through the beginning part of their conference schedule, sweeping the Reading Rangers in a two-game series by scores of 11-1 and 10-0 on Tuesday.

“Our bats started a little slow today, but we were able to pick it up,” Bronson coach Becky Gray said. “I was happy with the pitcher’s performance and the way the defense played behind them. Thursday will be a tough test for us, we will continue to work and improve each day.”

Game one saw Ashlynn Harris take the win on the mound for Bronson after throwing six innings, allowing only four hits and one run with one walk and 13 strikeouts. Harris helped her own cause at the plate, finishing 3 for 5 with two singles and a triple with two stolen bases.

Roni Bir also had a big game at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with two singles, a double, and three RBIs.

Adding to the Viking victory was Ciara Blankenship with two singles, one RBI and two stolen bases; Brealyn Lasky with a single and a double with two RBIs; and Delanee Carpenter with two singles and two RBIs.

Game two saw Bronson pitcher Mya Webb hold Reading scoreless as the Vikings took the 10-0 win. Webb pitched five innings, allowing five hits and no runs with one walk and six strikeouts.

Lydia Wells brought the big bat to game two, finishing a perfect 4 for 4 with three singles and a double with an RBI.

Also notching multiple hits for Bronson was Harris with two singles, one RBI and two stolen bases and Kailynne Scare with a single and a double.

With the sweep Bronson improves to 5-2 overall on the season and 4-0 in the Big 8. Bronson will be back in action Thursday when they travel to Grass Lake.
