Sofía Vergara Looks Totally Different in Promo Pics for New Netflix Show ‘Griselda’

Sofía Vergara is taking on a role quite different from that of Gloria on Modern Family.

The 49-year-old actress will executive produce and star in a new limited series for Netflix, titled Griselda, where she will play the real-life Griselda Blanco (AKA La Madrina or “The Godmother”), a notorious drug kingpin who became one of the richest people in the world.

The streaming service just offered the first glimpse of the series on Twitter, and it looks like Vergara has gone through a complete transformation for the role. Along with the promo image, they said, “Sofía Vergara stars as Griselda Blanco in a new limited series inspired by the Colombian businesswoman who created one of the most profitable cartels in history, which led to her being known as the ‘Godmother’ — FIRST LOOK.”

The limited series was first announced back in November, where Vergara said, “Griselda Blanco was a larger-than-life character whose ruthless but ingenious tactics allowed her to rule a billion dollar empire years before many of the most notorious male kingpins we know so much about. We are thrilled to have found the perfect partners in Eric (Newman), Andrés (Baiz) and Netflix to help us bring this story of her life to the screen.”

Baiz will serve as the director of all six episodes of Griselda . Besides Vergara, the show will star Alberto Guerra, Vanessa Ferlito, Alberto Ammann, Christian Tappan, Diego Trujillo, Paulina Davila, Gabriel Sloyer, Juliana Aidén Martinez, Martin Rodriguez, José Zúñiga, Maximiliano Hernández and Julieth Restrepo, according to Deadline.

Vergara has been developing this project with Balaguer for the last eight years, and while no release date has been set, we can't wait to see her take on this gritty role.
