The newly-elected chair and vice chair of the Sioux Falls City Council are no strangers to the position.

Curt Soehl was unanimously approved as the council's chair for the next year, after serving in the role from May 2021 to May 2023, when former Councilor Marshall Selberg took over the role.

"I will do my very best," Soehl said, a nearly-identical speech to the one he's given at each prior nomination.

Councilor Rich Merkouris will also serve a second consecutive year as the council's vice chair, again in a unanimous vote.

And Councilor David Barranco will continue on as the council's audit committee chair, in what was the third unanimous vote of the night. He said in a statement his team "could not have been prouder than when our audit was called 'a model for other communities'"

"I respectfully request that my colleagues, old and new, trust me to continue leading this vital group, steering it into the future," Barranco said.
