Social Security releases top names for boy, girl babies

For the fifth year in a row, every Tom, Dick and Harry have been named Liam and Olivia.

That's according to Social Security, which released its top baby names of 2023, and for the fifth straight year, Liam was the most popular boys name and Olivia took the top spot for girls.

It's also the fifth straight year, the runner ups in both were the same. Noah came in second once again for boys while Emma was the second-most popular girls name.

In fact, the names were similar across the board, with only one new name, Mateo, making the list.

For boys, the rest of the top 10, in order, were Oliver, James, Elijah, Mateo, Theodore, Henry, Lucas and William.

On the girls side, the top names were Charlotte, Amelia, Sophia, Mia, Isabella, Ava, Evelyn and Luna.

In what's become a tradition, Social Security unveils the most popular name right before Mother's Day weekend.

While the names above were the most popular, there were some new names popping up across the country.

For girls, the top five rising names were Kaeli, Alitzel, Emryn, Adhara and Azari. On the boys side, the fastest risers were Izael, Chozen, Eiden, Cassian and Kyren.
