Social media threat reported by 2 Sussex County high schools lacks credibility, police say

A threatening social media image reported by Cape Henlopen and Sussex Central high schools has been found to lack credibility, according to Delaware State Police who investigated the the matter.

The Sussex County schools reached out to police Wednesday afternoon about a concerning image of a gun and a threat to the schools that has been circulating on social media.

"The investigation revealed the image has been circulating nationwide for the last several years," police said in a statement Thursday morning. "At this time, the Delaware State Police has no intelligence indicating that the threat was credible."

Be mindful that the absence of intelligence does not mean the lack of a threat, police went on to say, adding people should call 911 to report suspicious activity.
