How social media reacted to Jordan Spieth's quadruple bogey 9 at the Masters on Friday

Jordan Spieth quickly became the talk of Augusta National Friday for all the wrong reasons.

His quad bogey 9 on the par-5 15th hole was the kind of meltdown you'd never expect from the 2015 Masters champion and world's eight-ranked golfer, who alongside his Green Jacket has finished runner-up twice, third twice and in the top 10 six times in 10 appearances at Augusta National.

Spieth went over the green with his third shot, a safe play with the wind. But his fourth went through the green into the water, forcing to pitch back on his penalty shot. After hitting the green, he three-putted for a quadruple-bogey 9. He finished at 7-over 79.

The crooked number on the 2024 Masters scorecard didn't go unnoticed by social media, which didn't hold back any punches.

While average golfers empathized, some poured salt on the wound, reminding this blowup wasn’t the first for Spieth at No. 15. Spieth also made a 9 in the first round of the 2017 Masters. That year, he shot 75 in the first round and tied for 11th.

Spieth went on to shoot a 7-over-par 79 in the first round.
