Snowmobile crash paralyzes 26-year-old man during Minnesota racing competition

A 26-year-old Wisconsin man is paralyzed from the chest down after he was thrown from his snowmobile during a race in Minnesota, his family says.

Cody Margelofsky was competing in the Nisswa 100 race on Jan. 15, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

First responders on standby at the event jumped into action, and Margelofsky was flown to a hospital by helicopter, the sheriff’s office said.

The rugged course spans over 50 miles of varied terrain, including wooded areas and open fields dotted with ditches.

Margelofsky was midway through the race when he crashed, his cousin Kelsey wrote in a social media post. He severed his spinal cord and is “paralyzed from his chest bone down.”

“Cody has continuously found the silver lining in the tough times and kept pushing forward with positivity,” the post said.

Even sitting in the hospital, his adventurous life interrupted, he’s kept his sense of humor, his family said on a GoFundMe page seeking donations to pay for his treatment.

“He made sure to let the nurses know ‘I’m usually cooler than this,’” family wrote.

“Although Cody does not have the capacity to respond to each and every one of you, the outpouring amount of love and support that he has received is greatly appreciated,” the GoFundMe said. “Cody has a great support system as he navigates his new way of life.”
