Snow day? Many Tacoma-area schools, libraries, park facilities affected by weather
After another round of snowfall overnight, nearly every Pierce County school district on Thursday canceled school or opted to start late due to winter weather conditions and icy roads. Some college campuses are also opening late.
Tacoma Public Schools are closed Thursday.
Here’s what other school districts in the county are doing Thursday (these are subject to change, so please check with your school district):
Bethel School District: Closed
Carbonado School District: Closed
Clover Park School District: Two hour late start, no half-day preschool, ECEAP or Head Start. No early release or transition programs
Dieringer School District: Closed
Eatonville School District: Closed, including the Pierce County Skills Center
Fife Public Schools: Closed, evening activities will be evaluated individually as the day progresses
Franklin Pierce School District: Closed, district offices are open
Orting School District: Closed
Peninsula School District: Two hour late start, no AM preschool. Half-day preschool is closed
Puyallup School District: Closed
Steilacoom Historical School District: Two hour late start
Sumner-Bonney Lake School District: Closed
University Place School District: Closed
White River School District: Closed. All meetings and field trips are canceled
What colleges in Pierce County are doing Dec. 1
Clover Park Technical College: Lakewood and South Hill campuses open at 9:30 a.m.
Pierce College: Campus opens at 10 a.m.
Pacific Lutheran University: Closed
Tacoma Community College: Closed
▪ The Pierce County Library District announced libraries would be closed Thursday:
“The Pierce County Library System is closed today, Thursday, Dec. 1, due to the snowstorm, road conditions and staffing shortages. In addition, the Pierce County Library Board of Trustees’ study session scheduled for today, Dec. 1, will be rescheduled.
“As always, the Library’s online services are open at www.piercecountylibrary.org, featuring online e-books, audiobooks, videos and magazines as well as other services and resources.”
▪ Metro Parks Tacoma also announced delays and cancellations Thursday.
Community centers and were expected to open two hours late, and swimming lessons were canceled. More information is available at the Metro Parks website.
