SNL Video: Dakota Johnson Destroys Please Don’t Destroy

Please Don’t Destroy served up a good ol’ roast battle on this week’s Saturday Night Live, and it turns out that guest host Dakota Johnson can give as good as she gets.

Johnson kicks off the festivities by telling the PDD boys (Ben Marshall, John Higgins, Martin Herlihy) that she’s seen all of their videos and they’re… “not for me.” She then swats down their sketch ideas before calling them “The Lonelier Island,” referring to that other three-man sketch troupe responsible for some of the biggest viral hits of the last 20 years.

After that, all hell breaks loose. The host and trio trade jabs at each other’s talent, success, looks, and taste in musicals (as the owner of multiple Hamilton Funko Pops, it’s kind of hard to be objective about this one). The comedians grow more frustrated as Johnson dishes out comeback after ice-cold comeback.

They finally get to the elephant in the room after taking a swipe at her movie, Daddio. “Is that who you called to get your job?” she deadpans. Dakota is the daughter of ’80s icon Don Johnson (and Melanie Griffith); two of Please Don’t Destroy are the children of former SNL head writers. This leads to the reveal of something called a “nepo truce” which, honestly, we’re all pretty sure actually exists, right?

Higgins finally crosses the line by threatening to alter the cue cards so Johnson says a racist slur during her monologue, shocking even Herlihy and Marshall. Naturally, Johnson gets the last laugh, mistaking Please Don’t Destroy for that other other comedy trio, Workaholics. I guess it’s true what they say: It’s hard to be a non-descript white guy in comedy these days. (Nobody says that.)

Watch the sketch above, then weigh in on the Jan. 27 SNL hosted by Dakota Johnson featuring musical guest Justin Timberlake.
