SNL Video: Bowen Yang, Ego Nwodim Host (Newark Airport) Thanksgiving Parade

With its pre-Thanksgiving outing, Saturday Night Live gave us Bowen Yang and Ego Nwodim as Umberto and Char, police (or security?) officers at “everybody’s third choice*,” Newark Airport, where they emceed the busy travel hub’s own version of a parade.

*Hey now! I love EWR, barely 40 minutes away.

Except where the annual Macy*s Parade, for example, features elaborate floats and giant balloon characters, the Hudson News Thanksgiving Parade trots out a variety of instantly recognizable types, such as The (Quarreling) Couple on Their Last Thanksgiving Trip Together… The Gentle-Parenting Father With His Out-of-Control Evil Child… and The Woman Who Refuses to Check a Bag (“for 75 damn dollars!”).

The highlights of this airport parade included Kenan Thompson as the TSA Agent who has a dozen slightly different ways of telling you to remove your laptop from its bag, Chloe Fineman as a woman with no fewer than three service animals (for her rosacea, her eczema, and anxiety… from traveling with three dogs), and Sarah Sherman as A Woman Who’s About to Go Viral (on both Black Twitter and white Twitter).

This weekend’s host, Jason Momoa, partook in the festivities as Captain Gary, a hard-drinking, free-loving pilot who… lives with 14 other pilots, and is game to pat you down “for all the wrong reasons.”

The grand finale of the Hudson News Thanksgiving Parade was, no, not jolly Santa’s arrival, but a brief jig by a group of Gay Flight Attendants Estranged From Their Families.
