May 26—Santa Fe Public Schools sites to offer free summer meals

The school year may be over, but Santa Fe Public Schools' cafeterias are still cooking.

The district will provide free, weekday meals open to all children ages 1 to 18 throughout June and July. Meals will be available at the following sites and times:

* Aspen Community School: Serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 3 to July 26.

* Capital High School: Serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 3 to July 19. Closed July 1 to July 5.

* Cesar Chavez Elementary School: Serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 3 to July 26.

* El Camino Real Academy: Serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 3 to June 28.

* Early College Opportunities High School: Serving lunch from 11:30 to 11:55 a.m., June 3 to July 19. Closed July 1 through July 5.

* Kearny Elementary School: Serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 3 to July 26.

* Nava Elementary School: Serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m., June 3 to July 26.

* Nina Otero Community School: Serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 3 to June 28.

* Ramirez Thomas Elementary School: Serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 3 to June 28.

* Sweeney Elementary School: Serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 3 to July 26.

All sites will be closed on weekends, June 19 and July 4.

SFCC to host open house

Santa Fe Community College will host an open house from 2 to 6 p.m. on June 13 to allow the public to learn more about the college's programs in the trades, sustainability, business and law.

Participating participating include:

* Water and wastewater operations

* Facilities maintenance (plumbing and heating, ventilation and air conditioning)

* Automotive technologies

* Building science and construction technologies

* Adobe construction

* Controlled environment agriculture

* Culinary arts

* Business administration

* Criminal justice and paralegal studies

Representatives from the college's financial aid office and English as a Second Language program will be on hand to answer questions. Visitors will also be able to learn about SFCC's Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training program, which improves students' reading, writing and math skills while they pursue a college certificate and high school equivalency.

Nusenda, public schools honor teacher, educational support professional of the quarter

Santa Fe Public Schools and Nusenda Credit Union on May 17 announced this quarter's Outstanding Teacher and Educational Support Professional of the Quarter, honoring Santa Fe High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps instructor Chief Petty Officer Patricia Schipp and Nava Elementary School educational and behavioral health assistant Tristan Jaramillo.

"We take great pride in recognizing the Outstanding Teacher and Educational Support Professional for this quarter," Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez said in a statement announcing the winners. "Their commitment to students and families is truly remarkable and valued."
