Skip Bayless Not Happy With College Football Playoff Committee

Fox Sports personality and noted Oklahomer Skip Bayless is not happy with the College Football Playoff committee after today’s first semifinal.

Skip has previously stated his case that Oklahoma should have gotten into the playoff as the No. 4 seed. Notre Dame’s 31-14 loss to Alabama did nothing to persuade him the committee got it right.

During the second half of the Crimson Tide win, Bayless voiced his displeasure with the situation on Twitter.

“I guarantee Oklahoma would have more than 7 points right now against Alabama. In fact, well might be 31-all,” Bayless wrote. “How could they justify pitting Notre Dame vs Bama after ND got blown out by Clemson??? ND’s national TV audience. Hope they’re still watching.”

Now, Skip has a couple of relevant points here. First, Oklahoma was playing its best football at the end of the season and likely would have been a more entertaining opponent for Alabama than Notre Dame was.

The Sooners’ defense this year has performed better than past units and OU’s offense is probably more explosive than the Fighting Irish attack. However, if Oklahoma was in the game, we don’t think the result would have been drastically different.

Could the Sooners have scored 31? Yeah probably, but Alabama didn’t seem to push the gas on offense much of the night because they didn’t have to–Notre Dame couldn’t score. If the Tide was facing an opponent that was putting points on the board, you can bet their offensive firepower would have been turned up.

Lastly, Notre Dame’s brand is still large, but the Fighting Irish did have a solid resume. They had a pair of top-15 wins, including one over then-No. 1 Clemson, albeit without Trevor Lawrence.

Oklahoma also had two top-15 wins, but one bad loss: a Week 2 setback against a Kansas State team that finished 4-6. Ultimately, that is what did the Sooners in.
