Six MetroWest communities that have a full plate of events planned for Memorial Day

Besides honoring U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the Armed Forces, Wayland's Memorial Day on Monday will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 1.

Troop 1 is among the oldest Scouting organizations in the country, founded in 1924 in Wayland. Its chair, Matthew Karpacz, will serve as grand marshal in this year's Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony of Remembrance.

The parade and ceremony, hosted by the Wayland Public Ceremonies Committee, begins at 11 a.m. at Wayland Middle School, 201 Main St. It proceeds along Main Street (Route 27) to Commonwealth Road (Route 30), and ends at Lakeview Cemetery.

The Ceremony of Remembrance takes place after the parade, at 11:30 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery.

Here are some other Memorial Day events happening in MetroWest:

Framingham

The city's Memorial Day ceremony takes place at the Memorial Building in Nevins Hall, 150 Concord St. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and is open to all.

Natick

This year's Memorial Day parade forms at Moran Park, near the Natick Center MBTA Commuter Rail Station (1 Walnut St.). It begins forming at 8:15 a.m., followed by a flag raising at 8:25 a.m. Parade participants will then head up Main Street (Route 27) toward the Town Common, 12 South Main St.

At 9 a.m., ceremonies begin at the Grand Army of the Republic Monument at the Town Common, including remarks, prayer, wreath placing and a speaker. In the event of severe weather, services will be held at the Community-Senior Center Building, 117 East Central St.

Rededication ceremonies occur at 11 a.m. at Memorial Field at Natick High School, rain or shine. Memorial Field is at 92-108 West St.

Unlike previous years, there will be no parade or procession to the cemeteries.

Milford

Milford's Memorial Day parade begins at 10 a.m. from Veterans Memorial Parkway off Medway Road (Route 109). It proceeds up East Main Street to Calzone Park, where a brief ceremony will be held. The parade will continue up Main Street and conclude at Draper War Memorial Park, where a speaking program will take place.

'Lay down one's life': Framingham veteran urges us to honor Memorial Day

This year's grand marshal is William "Billy" Collins, a 20-year member of the Milford Fire Department and a veteran of Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield.

In the event of inclement weather, the speaking ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at the Italian American Veterans Post 40, 4 Hayward Field.

Franklin

Franklin's Memorial Day parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. from Depot Street and proceeds up Main Street and concludes at Town Common.

Along the route, wreath layings will occur at several locations, including Dean College, Union Street Cemetery and St. Mary's Cemetery.

The final ceremony among veterans memorials is scheduled for noon.

Sudbury

Sudbury's Memorial Day parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at Rugged Bear Plaza on Boston Post Road (Route 20), following Concord Road and reaching Grinnell Park at Town Center at about 11 a.m.

The parade and ceremonies honor Sudbury veterans, starting with veterans from King Philip's War in 1676. During the program, Sudbury Ancient Fyfe and Drum Companies will perform musical selections.

Memorial Day activities will also take place at Sudbury's Heritage Park. The Sudbury History Center will be open for visitors.

Sudbury resident retired Capt. Paul E. Mawn, who was commissioned as a Navy ensign upon graduation from Harvard College, will serve as parade marshal.
