Sip into Barbie’s pink world: Lexington food and drink specials celebrate movie

Inspired by all things Barbie, Lexington restaurants and shops are stepping into Barbie’s world with pink food and drinks for customers to celebrate the release of one of summer’s highly anticipated movies. .

The live-action film of the 64-year-old icon will be in Lexington movie theaters beginning July 20 and is also inspiring local events like Barbie trivia and Barbie themed parties. There are even discounts if you decide to dress up as legendary characters Barbie or Ken at some locations.

Chaotic Good: Hi Barbie! Macchiato

Local coffee shop Chaotic Good: Coffee, Comics and Games, 545 S. Broadway, Suite 160, has the Hi Barbie! Macchiato that combines the flavors of espresso, strawberry and cherry. While recommended iced, co-owner Marian Turner said the drink can also be enjoyed hot.

Turner said the pink drink took a group effort and was something fun to do for the movie premier. Priced at $4.99 for a small or $5.99 for a large, the drink will be available until July 25. Customers can expect it to be featured on their next Coffee Flights as well.

Rock House Brewing: Pink Lemonade Pie Ale

Two Kentucky breweries came up with a collaboration for the the “Barbie” movie: Lexington’s Rock House Brewing teamed up with Louisville’s Butchertown Brewing to create a special beer.

Rock House Brewing, 119 Luigart Ct., will host a Barbie trivia night 7 to 9 p.m July 20 featuring their Pink Lemonade Pie Ale.

Social media and events coordinator Sean Cain described the pink-colored beer as a sour ale with raspberry and lemon puree, cream of coconut and vanilla soft serve ice cream mix.

Old Vine Bistro: Barbie Brunch

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 22, Old Vine Bistro, 400 Old Vine St., Unit 108, will host a Barbie Brunch. Dress up as your favorite Barbie or Ken to win prizes. Reservations can be made at ovbistro.com or by calling 859-523-4141.

Blue Stallion Brewing Company: Barbie’s Dream Beer

Forget Barbie’s Dreamhouse, Blue Stallion Brewing Company has Barbie’s Dream Beer.

Featuring a blood orange pilsner mixed with edible pink glitter, the craft brewery, located at 610 West 3rd St., will be offering the beer on Friday. Customers are welcome to the choice of a pint for $6 or a tasting glass for $3.50.

As an added bonus, Blue Stallion will also have another release for the weekend’s other summer movie blockbuster. Death, Destroyer of Worlds, named for the film “Oppenheimer,” is a Märzen with dark rum, allspice, lime and sugar.

The $8 pink shot is rimmed with strawberry frosting and sprinkles, topped with whip cream, additional pink sprinkles and a pink drink umbrella. Co-owner Claire Morgado-Howell said a pink queso dip will also be featured for $7 and those dressed up as Barbie will receive 10% off their meal.

Crank and Boom: Barbie Dreamhouse Sundae, Malibu Barbie Cocktail

Popular Lexington ice cream shop Crank and Boom will honor Barbie starting July 21 with a Dreamhouse Sundae and a Malibu Cocktail. They’ll have strawberry ice cream mixed with butter cake chunks and topped with strawberry sauce, graham cracker crumbs, hot pink whip cream and glitter for $8, while supplies last.

An additional cocktail special made up of strawberry ice cream, rum, pineapple juice and glitter will be available for $10. The two treats can be found at both the Distillery District and Clays Mill locations.
