Sioux Falls man arrested for assault, then found with stolen gun, police say

Updated as of May 6, 2024: Adam James Tesch pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle, and was sentenced to probation for 42 months. He also pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana of more than 2 ounces but less than a pound, for which he was sentenced to 180 days in jail and probation for 42 months, to run concurrent with the previously mentioned charge, court records show. All other charges have been dismissed.

Ealier story: The Sioux Falls Police Department arrested a man for aggravated assault and then found him in possession of a stolen vehicle Monday morning.

The call came in around 9:30 a.m. to the 3600 block of N. Sixth Avenue for a 38-year-old woman saying she was being held against her will at home by her roommate, according to police spokesperson Sam Clemens.

Police showed up and the woman was out of the house but they had to wait for the suspect, Adam James Tesch, 42, to exit the home. The victim told police he had a gun on him, Clemens said.

Tesch came out and police arrested him for aggravated assault due to threats he made to the victim. His vehicle was discovered to be stolen and a stolen handgun was found inside it too, Clemens said.

Part of Benson Road near where the incident took place was shut down by police Monday morning as they waited for the suspect to come out. Benson Road was reopened by noon.

There were no injuries reported to the victim. The gun was not used to threaten her.
