Simone Biles Has Telling Admission Following Her Withdrawal
United States gymnast Simone Biles opened up about her mental state after withdrawing from the team competition at the Summer Olympics on Tuesday.
Biles, the greatest gymnast in the world, withdrew from the team competition portion of the Tokyo Games. The United States team, shorthanded by Biles’ exit, went on to win the silver medal, as the Russian Olympic Committee won gold.
NBC reported that Biles’ withdrawal was mental health-related.
“We’ve just been told that, with regards to Simone withdrawing, it is not injury-related. It is a mental issue that Simone is having,” NBC reported.
Biles had a telling admission at a press conference on Tuesday. She was asked if she feels like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders.
“Yeah, that shit’s heavy,” Biles admitted.

Biles, who struggled in the qualifying portion earlier this weekend, had a similar comment on Instagram.
“I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but damn sometimes it’s hard hahaha! The olympics is no joke!” Biles wrote on Instagram.
It remains to be seen if Biles will compete in the all-around final or the individual event finals later in the Olympics.
