Simone Biles Reveals She’s Been ‘Overwhelmed’ Amid Return to Gymnastics Announcement

Simone Biles is ready to make her comeback. This week, the gold medalist, 26, confirmed that she is officially returning to gymnastics and will compete in the 2023 U.S. Classic next month.

A few days ago, the professional athlete posted a candid message on Twitter, thanking fans for all their kind words and remarks. While she is excited to return to the sport that she loves, Biles openly shared that she’s been “overwhelmed” with all the love and support she has received amid the news of her comeback.

“Sorry I’ve been a little MIA since the announcement,” she wrote in the tweet. “I’m overwhelmed with all of your messages, support & love! excited to get back out on the competition floor! XOXO.”

This event will mark the first time Biles has competed in a tournament since withdrawing from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

At the time, Biles revealed that she decided to step away from part of the competition to deal with her mental health. However, she did win a bronze medal in the balance beam event. Ever since then, she hasn’t stepped foot on a competitive mat.

On June 28, USA Gymnastics stated in a press release that Biles will make her epic comeback and will be joined by fellow gold medalists Sunisa Lee and Jade Carey.

Stefanie Korepin (USA Gymnastics Chief Programs Officer) said in the release: “It is exciting to think about the level of talent and historical legacy of the field that may compete at U.S. Classic. Every athlete is at a different place in their season and career, and we will support each of them, wherever they are in their journey.”

We’re rooting for you, Simone!
