Silk’s plant-based ‘Nextmilk’ hits stores nationwide this week

A popular non-dairy alternative has literally called next in the milk market.

The Broomfield, Colo.-based Dan0ne rolled out its new Silk Nextmilk nationally Wednesday — promising a beverage that offers the taste and texture that dairy drinkers just can’t give up on.

According to the company, Silk Nextmilk is formulated through a blend of plants designed to deliver on key attributes of dairy milk.

The product consists primarily of oat milk, with smaller proportions of coconut milk, coconut oil, soy protein isolate, chicory root extract, cane sugar, sunflower oil, a vitamin and mineral blend, sea salt, locust bean gum, gellan gum, sunflower lecithin, soy lecithin and “natural flavor.”

“We deconstructed dairy to create” it, Danone North America president of plant-based food and beverages John Starkey said in Wednesday’s announcement.

The Silk Nextmilk is now available in stores including Target, Kroger, Publix and various other retailers.

Available in both whole fat and reduced fat versions (suggested retail is $4.99 for a 59-ounce carton), the beverage can also be used as a one-to-one alternative to traditional dairy milk in recipes.
