Shriners Children’s now offers orthopedic care in Boiling Springs

Anita and Christopher Lee have spent a lot of time on the road, making sure their children have the medical care they need. But having that care available just around the corner? That makes all the difference.

Anita Lee said her family has received care from Shriners Children’s Greenville for years, but her daughter Meilyn now sees her orthopedic surgeon, David Westberry, at Shriners Children’s Boiling Springs clinic, which opened earlier this year. The clinic is held regularly inside Parkside Pediatrics Boiling Springs, with the goal of making services more accessible to Upstate children, especially those in Spartanburg and Cherokee counties.

“We went to adopt her in 2018 in China, and we knew that she had limb differences,” Lee said. “We actually have two other boys from China that are also Shriners patients.”

Meilyn did not walk prior to her surgery and treatment by Shriners Children’s physicians. Now, she runs.

“She loves to play soccer and basketball,” Lee said.

The new clinic is “a big help” for the whole family, Lee said. The easy access means less work missed for her and her husband, but it also means that Meilyn and her brothers don’t have to miss a full day of school for appointments in Greenville.

With a long connection to Shriners Children’s, Lee said this is one more way her family has benefited from care.

“We appreciate them,” she said.
