The Late Show Taking Brief Hiatus While Stephen Colbert Recovers From COVID

After briefly hosting The Late Show from home, Stephen Colbert is taking the rest of the week off to recover from his latest bout with COVID-19.

“Sorry to say, per doctor’s orders, I’m going to be out for the rest of the week,” Colbert posted on The Late Show‘s social media channels. “Resting up so that I can deliver the hand crafted, artisanal talk show that we so enjoy serving you. In the meantime, a heady blend of Paxlovid and onions in my socks (thank you, Fallon) will be rebuilding my immune system.”

Guests who were scheduled to appear in this week’s now-cancelled run of episodes (Tuesday–Thursday) include Rachel Maddow, members of the Talking Heads, R&B artist Daniel Caesar, Keegan-Micheal Key and Elle Key, and former Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste. Friday’s episode was already scheduled to be a rebroadcast of Colbert’s recent interview with Anderson Cooper, coupled with a performance from the indie band Japanese Breakfast.

Colbert’s diagnosis was announced Monday morning on the late-night show’s socials with the following message to loyal viewers: “The Late Show will look a little bit different tonight because Stephen is At Home with Covid. (He’s ok!) But be sure to tune in as the show will go on remotely with monologue.”

Virtual guests for Monday’s show included Jada Pinkett Smith (maybe you’ve seen her in a few headlines lately?) and comedian Ricky Velez.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights on CBS at 11:35/10:35c. Will you miss Colbert this week? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.
