Aaron Alston has always wanted a sports car.

Thanks to a lucky scratch-off Carolina Jackpot ticket, Alston’s dream might come true, he told North Carolina lottery officials, according to a Sept. 23 North Carolina Education Lottery news release.

The Spring Hope resident bought his $5 ticket at the Fuel Doc on South Barnes Street in Nashville, officials said. He took the ticket home and the results were “shocking.”

Alston won a $200,000 jackpot.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” he told officials. “I called some close family members to tell them, but they didn’t believe it so I had to FaceTime to show it to them.”

Alston took his ticket to lottery headquarters on Sept. 22. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $142,021.

Now, Alston is making plans for his winnings, he told officials.

“Probably a Camaro,” he said.

The Carolina Jackpot game debuted in June with six top prizes of $200,000. Two jackpots remain, the release says.

Spring Hope is about 40 miles northeast of Raleigh.
