Sheriff office looking for security video footage following rash of break-ins

The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help following a rash of break-ins in the village of Mendon.

Deputies were called to a home in the 200 block of Fletcher Street about 9 p.m. April 28. The homeowner had returned home after several hours and found signs someone had been inside.

Deputies were then called to the 200 block of East Main Street in Mendon about 2 a.m. April 29, after a resident reported someone trying to enter a home. The homeowner was able to scare off the subject and no one was located after deputies searched the area.

Another call came in about 3:30 a.m. April 29 after a homeowner located a subject inside their residence in the 100 block of East Main Street in Mendon. The subject, described as a white man, approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall between 40 to 50 years old, with a tattoo on his upper right arm, fled the residence southbound.

A K9 was called to the scene but the suspect was not located.

The sheriff’s office is asking residents in the area to check security cameras for any footage of the suspect. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Deputy R. Miller at (269) 467-9045 ext. 330.
