Sheboygan reinstalls absentee ballot drop box at library following state Supreme Court ruling
SHEBOYGAN – An absentee ballot drop box has been reinstalled at Mead Public Library following a state Supreme Court decision permitting them.
The city's ballot drop box is at the drive-through lane at the library, 710 N. Eighth St. It is open 24/7 until noon on Election Day. At that time, the deposit slot will lock, and ballots will be delivered to their respective polling locations.
“The Ballot Drop Box conforms with the recommended best practices for security measures provided by the Wisconsin Elections Commission,” the city said in a news release.
Voters can also return absentee ballots to their respective polling places between 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day or to the Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 828 Center Ave. Voters can also send their absentee ballots by mail through the U.S. Postal Service to the Clerk’s Office, ensuring they're received by Election Day.
What to know about Aug. 13 primary: Who's on the Aug. 13 primary election ballot for Sheboygan County? We have the answer.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court's decision July 5 in Priorities USA v. WEC overturned a previous ruling that “secure drop boxes” were not a valid method to return absentee ballots. Utilizing drop boxes is up to municipal discretion.
Upcoming elections include the partisan primary Aug. 13 and the general election Nov. 5. Call the Clerk's Office at 920-459-3361 or go to sheboyganwi.gov for more information.
