Pop singer Shawn Mendes canceled all of his 2022 and 2023 tour dates to focus on his mental health, he announced on Wednesday, July 27.

The “Treat You Better” singer had said in early July he was canceling three weeks of tour dates. His latest announcement cancels dozens of stops on Wonder: The World Tour.

“I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on me,” he said in a social media post Wednesday. “I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away. After speaking more with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger.”

Mendes said he will make new music while taking his mental health break and will return to tour “in the future.”

“I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal,” he said. “I love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.”

Venues on Mendes’ tour tweeted Wednesday that tickets will be automatically refunded through Ticketmaster. No action from ticket buyers will be required, said TD Garden in Boston.

Tate McRae, a singer who was joining Mendes on his tour, said in a TikTok post she is sad not to see her fans, but supported Mendes.

“I also wanna make sure that Shawn’s doing what’s best for his mental health and he’s taking care of himself, because a tour can be a really demanding process,” she said.

Fans also showed support for the 23-year-old singer on Wednesday.

“Take care of yourself, we love you Shawn,” a fan page said.

“We wanted to send big, big love to Shawn Mendes today. We hope he gets better soon,” another Twitter user said. “Takes some bravery to go ahead and speak up about mental health as an artist, sometimes. come back stronger @ShawnMendes.”
