Share your thoughts on how Railroad Square should be saved

As residents of Tallahassee and Leon County continue to rebuild their lives, homes and businesses after the May 10 tornado outbreak, a separate community discussion is underway over the future of a clearly visible casualty – Railroad Square, one of the most beloved arts districts in the region.

Owners Adam and Lily Kaye have sounded the alarm they cannot afford to go it alone in rebuilding the 8-acre property where several of the 60- to 80-year-old warehouses were destroyed. Most were uninsured.

For many, this community of creatives complements the nationally acclaimed universities, college athletics and the seat of state government.

That passion has led to discussions on what role local government – and our taxpayer dollars – should play in the rebuilding and reimagining of Railroad Square and the Arts District.

We want to hear your views on this subject and share them with the community on our daily Opinion pages.

You have two options: Send us a 200-word letter to the editor that includes your name, city of residence and email address. For those who need more space, send us a Your Turn column of about 550 words, and include your name, a one-line bio, your cell number (for editing purposes) and attach a color headshot.

You can submit either option to TLHLetters@tallahassee.com. We will publish online and in print the most insightful views offered.
