On TNT’s Inside The NBA, legendary Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal does not shy away from giving his honest opinions about the league.

During a recent appearance on “The Pivot Podcast” with former NFL players Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor, Shaq got open and honest about something much more personal: his divorce from wife Shaunie.

Shaunie and Shaquille were married in 2002 and had four children together: Shareef, Amirah, Shaqir and Me’arah. They separated in 2007 before reconciling, but Shaunie later filed for divorce in 2009. It was finalized in 2011.

“I had the perfect situation,” Shaq said, via TMZ. “Wife was finer than a mug. Kept giving me babies, still finer than a mug — I had it all.”

Shaq, 50, did not hold back, telling Clark, Crowder and Taylor that the end of the marriage was his fault.

“I don’t make excuses. I know I messed up,” he said.

O’Neal went to say he was lonely when Shaunie and their children moved out of the couple’s mansion. He also said that the failure of his marriage is one of three major regrets he has in his life, along with his strained relationships with former teammates Penny Hardaway and Kobe Bryant.

Shaunie O’Neal, now 47, is an executive producer of the reality TV series Basketball Wives, Basketball Wives LA, and Baller Wives. She is engaged to Keion Henderson.
