‘Shameless’ Alum Jeremy Allen White to Lead FX Comedy Pilot ‘The Bear’
Jeremy Allen White has been cast in the lead role of the FX comedy pilot “The Bear,” Variety has learned.
In addition, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Abby Elliott, and Matty Matheson have also been cast in the project, which was ordered to pilot at FX back in March.
“The Bear” is about a young chef (White) who returns to Chicago to run the family restaurant. Christopher Storer is the writer and director of the pilot. He will also executive produce with Hiro Murai and Mate Matteson of Super Frog and Joanna Calo. FX Productions will produce.
White is best known for playing Lip Gallagher throughout the run of the hit Showtime series “Shameless,” which ended its run in April. His other TV credits include the first season of “Homecoming” at Amazon, while he has also starred in features like “The Rental,” “Afterschool,” “The Time Being,” and “Viena and the Fantomes.”
He is repped by WME, Management 360, and Hansen Jacobson.
Moss-Bachrach’s recent credits include “NOS4A2,” “Interrogation,” and “The Punisher.” He was also a series regular on the HBO series “Girls,” on which he played Desi. His film credits include “We’ll Never Have Paris,” “Tesla,” and “Blow the Man Down.”
He is repped by UTA, Sue Leibman/Barking Dog Entertainment and Peikoff-Mahan.
Edebiri is a writer-performer who has written for and starred in the Apple series “Dickinson,” playing Hattie in the show’s second season. She has also written for “Big Mouth,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” and “Sunnyside.” She was named the new voice of Missy on “Big Mouth” in August 2020.
She is repped by CAA, Odenkirk Provissiero and Del Shaw Moonves.
Boyce the co-creator and star of the Adult Swim series “Loiter Squad” and “The Jellies.” He also appeared in the SundanceTV series “Hap & Leonard.” he and Tyler, the Creator co-founded Bald Fade Productions, which has a first-look deal at Sony Pictures Television.
He is repped by WME and M88.
Elliot was previously a cast member on “SNL” for four seasons. Her other TV credits include “Odd Mom Out,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “King of the Hill,” and “Inside Amy Schumer.” She has also appeared in films like “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Life Partners,” and “High Road.”

Matheson is a Toronto-based chef and the host of multiple YouTube cooking shows like “Just a Dash” and “Home Style Cookery.” He has authored two New York Times bestselling cookbooks and operates four restaurants in Toronto.
