Severe weather is pushing through Central Indiana on Thursday. Here's what to expect.

Hoosiers should keep an eye on the weather Thursday as a severe line of storms moves through Central Indiana, according to the National Weather Service, producing damaging winds and hail.

Are more thunderstorms possible Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Central Indiana?

Although NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Indianapolis, Fishers and Lawrence until 12:30 p.m., there remains a chance for more severe weather later Thursday, according to NWS.

What can Hoosiers expect from these storms?

Meteorologists said Thursday's storms could produce ping pong-sized hail and damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph in some parts of Indiana.

Have power outages been reported?

AES reported up to 294 customers were without power at 12:34 p.m., Thursday in Indianapolis. Elsewhere in Indiana around the same time, more than 950 Duke Energy customers were without power.

By 2:45 p.m. as the line of storms cut through the state, Duke energy reported nearly 3,000 Hoosiers without power. In Indianapolis, less than 60 people had no service, according to AES.

Current Central Indiana forecast from NWS

Thursday night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 5 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 51. West southwest wind 8-10 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m., then a chance of showers between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 51 by 10 a.m. North northeast wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
