Several people taken hostage in Minnesota bank robbery, 2 women released

Multiple employees at a Minnesota bank were taken hostage Thursday afternoon during a robbery, and two women were released about five hours later.

Cops swarmed the Wells Fargo branch in St. Cloud just before 2 p.m. following reports of a robbery, according to the St. Cloud Times. All entrances remain covered by officers.

Witnesses said a man took an unknown number of Wells Fargo employees hostage, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. Several people were spotted running from the bank, about 60 miles northwest of Minneapolis, shortly before police arrived.

The situation inside the bank is unclear as of Thursday evening, but cops reported no injuries among employees or officers, according to the St. Cloud Times.

One hostage, an unidentified woman, was released around 6:30 p.m., Minneapolis ABC affiliate KTSP reported. A second woman was seen leaving about half an hour later.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, remained on the scene and continued negotiations as night fell.
