‘Several bags’ of human remains wash up on Seattle shoreline

“Several bags” of human remains found on the Seattle shoreline have sparked an investigation.

Authorities were responding to a report about a “suspicious bag” that washed up in the West Seattle area when they made the gruesome discovery on Thursday.

According to KOMO, the tipster was concerned about a foul smell coming from the bag, found at a park along Elliott Bay.

A second bag was later discovered in the water, authorities said in a press release on Friday.

“There was a police boat and an inflatable boat and they had a hook and they took black plastic bags out,” Steven Buty, who lives near the beach, told KOMO. “I saw them take two bags.”

Detectives were called to the scene as soon as the bags’ contents were confirmed to be human remains. It is unclear whether they are male or female.

Authorities are working with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the remains. They are also investigating whether the bags were dropped off at the Seattle beach of if they were carried in by the tide.

The number of bodies is also unknown at this time.
