Netflix has announced that an adaption of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is on the way.

Sharing the news earlier this week, the streaming site also revealed that Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland is currently lined up to direct the project. Liz Tigelaar (Little Fires Everywhere) will be producing the script, while author Taylor Jenkins Reid will will executive produce the film.

Released in 2017, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo recounts the glamorous life and multiple marriages of fictional film star Evelyn Hugo.

When young reporter Monique Grant is chosen to interview the reclusive former actress she soon finds herself tasked with writing the story of Evelyn's life, with scandalous secrets and lies revealed along the way.

The book has received critical acclaim, spending 120 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list, as well as winning the 2017 Goodreads Choice Award nomination for Best Historical Fiction and becoming a global TikTok phenomenon.

As well as her work on hit series Russian Doll, Headland has worked on multiple films, including Bachelorette (2012) and Sleeping with Other People (2015).

She has also made the journey to the galaxy far, far away, serving as the creator, showrunner, executive producer and director of upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo isn't the first novel of Jenkins Reid's to make it onto the screen, following the release of Prime Video's Daisy Jones & the Six earlier this year.

Starring Sam Claflin and Riley Keough, the series follows the rise and fall of the titular fictional 1970s rock band as well as the relationship between its leading stars Billy Dunne and Daisy Jones.

Daisy Jones & The Six is available to watch on Prime Video.
