Pedestrian killed in a Lexington crash. Police investigating weather, darkness as factors

A man in Lexington was killed Thursday morning after being hit by a car on Liberty Road, according to police.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Joshua Davis, 42. He was declared dead at 6:02 a.m. at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

The accident happened at approximately 5:30 a.m. on the 1700 block of Liberty Road, according to Lt. Daniel Truex with the Lexington Police Department. Truex said Davis was walking in the road when he was hit by a car.

Davis was transported to a hospital, where he was was pronounced dead, according to Truex.

A number of factors, such as weather and darkness, could have contributed to the crash, but the collision reconstruction unit is investigating, according to Truex.

Truex said the driver involved in the accident was cooperative and no charges are expected to be filed.

Police have Liberty Road shutdown between Ellison Court and Appletree Lane, the Lexington Traffic Management Center reported. At 8 a.m. Truex said the road will be blocked off for at least another hour.

At 8:40 a.m. the traffic management center reported that the road was reopening.
