WARSAW − River View High School senior Caily Shriver has two goals as she leaves high school − to become a political speech writer and to one day return to her native Coshocton County.

Caily Shriver of River View High School wants to become a political speech writer and has been very involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes while in school.

The daughter of Craig and Stacey Shriver plans to attend Liberty University, a Christian college in Lynchburg, Virginia. She wants to major in writing with a government or political science minor and wants to get into political writing. A speech writer would be her dream job. She said the university has a lot of clubs that will help with networking for a political career. Her favorite classes in school are English and history.

Shriver said her parents have been politically active and her brother, Caleb Shriver, has worked in Washington D.C. While one can write from almost anywhere, she hopes to land a position that would allow her to move back to Coshocton.

"So many people want to come back here. I think it's important, because it's so much safer here. I think that's become harder to find in a lot of bigger cities," she said. "Especially with online job opportunities it's easier to stay where you want to stay. But, this is where I'd like to have a family."

In high school, Shriver has participated in indoor and outdoor track, cross country, basketball and golf. She's been involved with student council, art club, Spanish Honor Society and others. She's also been active with many community activities and organizations, including Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

"I just love this community and have had a lot of people in the community help me out, so I wanted to give back. I like being involved in the school because I can see my friends, especially with athletics. I just enjoy sports and staying active and being able to hang out with my friends while I do that," Shriver said.

Many River View seniors participate in senior projects and Shriver has two related to her interests. She maintains the Instagram account for the track and field team and is raising money to support the annual baccalaureate service.

While she's excited to graduate high school, she's sad to leave FCA behind. She's been a member of the River View leadership team for FCA and weekly meetings are all student led. She's spoken at local churches and been involved in community events for FCA as well. She finds the organization uplifting and said the adult leaders have been mentors to her.

"It's important to stay involved in your school and community. A lot of people kind of forget how important that is. Not only because it looks good, it's important for one socially," Shriver said. "Especially if you plan on coming back to this community, it's important to stay involved and know what's going on for your benefit and your family's benefit."
