Sen. Schumer says ‘erection’ instead of ‘insurrection’ during impeachment trial update

Speaking on the Senate floor is a hard job.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told colleagues Friday they’ll have to decide if ex-President Donald Trump “incited the erection” on the nation, stumbling over the word “insurrection” before quickly correcting himself.

The blunder came as he told other lawmakers the House’s article of impeachment will be sent to the Senate Monday, initiating the start of Trump’s impeachment trial.

“But make no mistake: there will be a trial and when that trial ends, Senators will have to decide if they believe Donald John — Donald John Trump incited the erection — insurrection — against the United States,” Schumer said.

The comment quickly elicited a number of reactions from Twitter users.

“It was an uprising either way,” one person tweeted. “That will be hard to live down,” another person wrote.
